Filter Cost Per Year

Quick answer: Enter the price of one filter, days between changes, how many filters you replace each time, and any shipping per order. The calculator works out changes per year, total filters, yearly cost and monthly cost. Use it to compare 1-inch and 4-inch filters, MERV levels, or a subscription against store multi-packs.

Arithmetic estimate using your prices. Taxes and price changes not included.

The formula

Changes per year = 365 ÷ days. Yearly cost = changes × (price × filters per change + shipping). Monthly cost is yearly ÷ 12. Taxes and future price changes are not included.

Worked example

A $12 filter changed every 90 days is about 4.1 changes and $48.67 a year. Two $9 filters every 60 days with $5 shipping per order is about 6.1 orders and $139.92 a year. A $45 deep media filter every 270 days is about $60.83 a year.

Illustrative note (2026-10-29): Prices here are hypothetical, set on 2026-10-29 for illustration; they do not describe any product.

Using the result

Compare options at equal capture: a 4-inch MERV 13 against a 1-inch MERV 13 often shows the deep filter costing less per year, if your system has a cabinet.
